Flood Disaster in Nepal
The news and images currently coming to us from Nepal have deeply moved us.
Following severe flash floods, the region around Devighat in Nuwakot District has been particularly hard hit by massive destruction—a region with which PAPA LOBSTER has had close ties for many years.
Homes have been destroyed or buried, roads and bridges have been swept away by the floodwaters, and entire areas are submerged. Many people had to leave everything behind at a moment’s notice and flee to higher ground. There are fatalities and people missing.
Fortunately, our direct contacts on the ground were able to get to safety. At the same time, we are receiving reports of extensive damage in the communities. Due to destroyed bridges and, in some cases, a lack of electricity and cell service, some areas are currently difficult to reach. The full extent of the disaster therefore remains unclear.
A region with which we share many ties
For PAPA LOBSTER, Nepal is much more than just a production site. Over the years, we have developed personal connections and a close working relationship with the local people there.
Together with the Jürgen Wahn Foundation e.V., we also support school and children’s projects in Nepal. The foundation has been active in the Nuwakot district for many years and has supported, among other things, school construction projects as well as the children’s and youth club in Devighat.
These projects, too, have been affected by the recent disaster. According to initial reports, the youth club building, among other structures, was flooded and partially buried. Due to the difficulty in accessing the area, the full extent of the damage cannot yet be determined.
The priority now is to help the people there
We remain in contact with the Jürgen Wahn Foundation and our contacts in Nepal. As soon as the situation on the ground becomes more accessible, it will become clear where support is needed most urgently—ranging from immediate aid to reconstruction and support for the affected families and children.
